In Greek, the word "Lampsi" can be directly translated to this word, "λάμψη" and that word itself means "shine", "brightness", "glow", "luster", "glitter" etc. So when one says that your hair needs to Lampsi, it means that YOUR HAIR needs to shine. Back in the day, specifically from the 15th century to the 19th century, the Transatlantic slave trade took place. Meaning that African men, women, boys and girls were taken away from their homes and sold to the Europeans or Portuguese and they were shipped across the world to a foreign world to labour for the white man and his wicked intentions.  

Most of our ancestors worked on cotton fields, cocoa farms, corn farms and many other places and even  domestic servants(If they were favoured by their masters). As expected, they worked all day, some losing their lives in the process and many wanted to run away.  

Most times, if the master caught them planning an escape, they would either be resold or killed. They were not literates who could read or write nor could they be caught drawing maps as a way to escape out of their slavery. Do you know what they did? They used their hair as a means to pass messages to each other.  

Whenever they planned to escape, all the women would make a particular style of cornrows (popularly known as "All-back). And if they needed a map, the women would have their hair plaited in different designs. Well, to the white man, they were designs but to the blacks, they were coded maps, directions and patterns that they used to escape or naviate their way out of a life doomed to slavery.  

Since the white man had no understanding of what our ancestors did with their hair, the women would have pieces of seeds and gold added to their hair in the most unnoticed of manners. This was so that when they escaped, they could plant the seeds for food and use the gold for survival and this strategy was what many of our forefathers used to escape slavery.  

Now, do you see how uneasy lies the head that wears the crown? Or rather, how uneasy lies the head that carries the hair? Do you now know why your hair needs the best of treatment and the best of protection and care? Because you're not just carrying a puff of coiled follicles on your head, you are carrying HISTORY on your head.
